Aguilas Make Errors, Lose to Licey
The Licey Tigres defeated the Aguilas Cibaenas last night by a 7-1 margin at Estadio Quisqueya in Santo Domingo. Pardon my brevity, but this game can be boiled down to its essence very quickly – the Aguilas made a grand total of six errors, including two each by starting pitcher Kelvin Villa and third baseman Alex Valdez, and under those circumstances it is very hard to win a baseball game.
Erick Aybar was the only Licey batter to get more than one hit, to give you an idea of the role defense – or more accurately, the lack of it – played. Ex-Pirate, the ageless Juan Cruz, pitched two solid innings for Licey.
In a game between the other two teams remaining, Escogido defeated the Gigantes de Cibao at Estadio Julian Javier by a 4-1 score. This leaves the two clubs from Santo Domingo tied at 3-2 in the round robin tournament, with the two teams from the Cibao at 2-3.
